Figs were a popular fruit in ancient Greece and were considered a prized symbol of peace and prosperity. In recognition of the goddess of love, we've combined the luscious fruitiness of the fig with succulent melon and elements of the sea to produce one of our sweetest and most powerful fragrances yet.

TOP NOTES: Melon + Lemon
MIDDLE NOTES: Wild Rose + Ocean Breeze
BOTTOM NOTES: Driftwood + Vanilla

Colour

Pink has been described as the colour of universal love, with the deeper hue of magenta suggesting passion and romance. We've teamed this duo with the blue of the sea foam that first revealed Aphrodite to the world.

Love, Beauty + Sexuality

While some historians declare that Aphrodite was the daughter of Zeus and Dione, the more popular belief was that she was born of Uranus (the personification of Heaven). Uranus feared the power of his children so he would cast each of them deep into their mother, Gaia (Gaea, the earth personified). His youngest son, Cronus (Cronos or Kronos), separated heaven and earth by castrating Uranus and tossing his genitals into the sea. This produced a sea foam from which Aphrodite emerged, fully grown and naked on a scallop shell. She was said to have been the most beautiful woman to have ever existed.

The place of her birth has been argued and two regions claim her as their own. She was known as both Cytherea (Lady of Cythera) and Cypris (Lady of Cyprus). As the goddess of love, beauty and sexuality, she is also aligned with fertility, due to her close associations with Eros (god of carnal love), the Charities (goddesses of charm) and the Horae (goddesses of the seasons). Aphrodite is the patron goddess of prostitutes and the annual festival known as the Aphrodisia was held in her honour each summer.

Her beauty caused fighting amongst the gods, as all who saw her, wanted her as their own. In an attempt to keep the peace, Zeus forced her to marry his son, Hephaestus, who was the deformed god of fire and blacksmiths. However, this union only led Aphrodite to indulge in numerous affairs. Her longest and most noted affair was with the god, Ares (god of courage and war). Together they had eight children, including four of the Erotes (winged gods of love). She also had children with the gods Poseidon and Hermes and noted affairs with mortals Anchises and Adonis.

It is widely believed that Aphrodite was the cause of the Trojan war, after she bribed the mortal judge, Paris of Troy, to declare her the most beautiful goddess over Hera and Athena. He awarded her a golden apple which had been inscribed with the words, “for the fairest” by a vengeful Eris (goddess of strife). In exchange, Aphrodite promised Paris he could have the most beautiful woman in the world - Helen, the wife of Spartan King Menelaus. The war lasted ten years with Aphrodite siding with the Trojans, while Hera and Athena aided the Greeks of Sparta.
