The Zodiac Collection

 The zodiac is an imaginary band in the heavens. It is centred on the ecliptic, which is the path that the Earth follows as it orbits around the sun. Over the course of the year, we see different planets and constellations pass through this band.

The zodiac band actually reveals 13 constellations, however we only recognise 12 of these as signs of the zodiac (Ophiuchus, the Serpent Bearer, is often referred to as the forgotten constellation). The Greek zodiac calendar, which we still refer to today, is divided equally into 12 constellations, each measuring 30 degrees longitude. Each of these constellations represent a zodiac sign, whose origins are steeped in Greek mythology.

The  word "zodiac" is from the ancient Greek term "zōdiakòs kýklos", which translates to "cycle/circle of little animals". Many believe this is in reference to the animals that are attributed to the 12 signs, while others say it refers to the fact that we are all beasts and therefore part of the circle of life.
